Add my great love of horses... The reason I chose this subject for my dissertation is that I wanted to work with horses in Equine Therapy and why not? I already had the horses, and had worked at a facility for this type of work. I had wanted to have a program that catered to repeat offenders, addiction, and veterans returning from the front lines. I owned horses when I was young and they saved my life. I just wanted to return the favor—not just for people, but for the horses too. In our society, when an animal is not longer useful, many times they are just thrown away, abused, or put down. I wanted to use older horses to form a bond with the clientele, so everyone could have their own personal horse to love and care for and the horses could have someone to love them in return. Someday, perhaps I will be blessed enough to finish this journey. >See some pics of Bobby's horses... Becoming an author-publisher was coming full circle... In 2006 I had an idea for a children’s book. When I was a girl, I worked at a potter’s wheel in high school creating many different types of pottery. My favorite was one of my first pieces that was so heavy it was really not very useful. This memory spurred the idea for the book, A Lump Of Clay. (See sample pages of book here). I have been a Christian since I was a teenager, when I taught a bible study for children at my church. That is when I created my first “books” for younger children as a class project--I was in the 6th grade. I remember I was asked to do more of these book projects as because I illustrated the books and the kids enjoyed reading the stories. They were all about animals. When the idea of a “Lump Of Clay came to me, I hoped that my books could be used by God as an inspirational message to children, and as a teaching tool for some of the basic principles in the Christian faith. I'm now producing books accompanied by my own narration CD's through my publishing company, Lady Hawk Press. |
